City of Kissimmee 2014 Festival of Lights Parade Saturday, December 13th

The City of Kissimmee’s annual Festival of Lights Parade will take place this Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 7:15 p.m. in Historic Downtown Kissimmee, with Melba Luciano serving as this year’s Grand Marshal.

Melba Luciano is the Osceola County Superintendent of Schools and has worked close to 30 years in education in Osceola County, continuing to champion every day for the success of over 58,000 students. Mrs. Luciano brings to the Superintendent’s position excellent communication skills, a sense of leadership for learning, an unrivaled sense of professionalism and a passion for involvement and collaboration for public education in our community.

The theme to this year’s Festival of Lights Parade is “Holiday Traditions Around the World”, with entries and floats decorated to reflect this. Along with the parade, festivities include a Santa Claus meet and greet and photo opportunity on Ruby Plaza in the Heron Pavilion from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Ruby Plaza is located in the Kissimmee Lakefront Park on Lakeview Drive and Ruby Avenue.

The parade route, which kicks off at 7:15 p.m. will follow Broadway to Dakin Avenue towards the Kissimmee Civic Center and proceed along Lakeview Drive finishing at Ruby Avenue for the lighting of the Ruby Plaza Christmas tree.

Road closures for the parade will take place in downtown Kissimmee beginning on Saturday, December 13 at 5:30 p.m. and will be in effect thru 9:00 p.m. The following roads will be closed:

Broadway from Neptune Road to N. Beaumont Ave. Avenue including: Neptune Road at Broadway (hard road closure) Sproule Avenue at Broadway (closed to thru-traffic) Dakin Avenue at Broadway (closed to thru-traffic) Darlington Avenue at Broadway (closed to thru-traffic) N. Stewart Avenue at Broadway (closed to thru-traffic) Emmett Street N. Orlando Avenue at Emmett Street (closed to thru-traffic N. Beaumont Avenue at Emmett Street (hard road closure) Ruby Avenue (closed to thru-traffic) Pleasant Street from Dakin Avenue to Ruby Avenue (closed to thru traffic) Monument Avenue from Broadway to Johnston Street (hard road closure) Lakeview Drive from Ruby Avenue to Dakin Avenue (hard road closure)

Motorists will be able to utilize Church Street as an alternate route and Pleasant Road for access to bus and train.
