This past weekend Jayla decided to make breakfast for the family! Looking through her favorite cookbook, The Disney Princess Cookbook, she decided that the family would feast on Tiana’s Baked Caramel French Toast. Jayla informed us that this sweet French Toast dish was a big hit with Tiana’s customers at Tiana’s Palace and she knew that we would love it.
Saturday night, Jayla mixed up a big batch so that it would be ready to pop in the oven the next morning. Let me say, the entire family went back for 2nds and there was at least one boy in the family that went back for 3rds.
Here’s a list of the you will need to make this delicious Disney inspired dish.
INGREDIENTS: Small (10 oz) loaf of French bread, pulled apart into 1 inch pieces 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar 3/4 Tsp Cinnamon Dash of Salt 6 Large Eggs 1 1/4 Cup Milk 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
DIRECTIONS:
1. Generously butter a 9 x 13 inch casserole dish. Place the bread pieces in the dish.
2. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Sprinkle the mixture over the bread.
3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread. Then use a spatula to press the bread down to make sure it is well coated.
4. Cover the baking pan with aluminum foil and refrigerate it for at least 4 hours, or overnight. (Jayla recommends overnight, just like Tiana does.)
5. When you’re ready to cook the French toast, head the over to 350 degrees F. Ask an adult to help you with the oven. Bake the French toast with the foil in place for 20 minutes. Remove the foil, and continue baking for another 25 minutes.
6. Take the tray out of the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
Jayla served our French toast on our Disney plates and accompanying the French toast was a side of sausage and Belle’s Enchanting Strawberry Roses. It was truly a magical breakfast!
Jayla would love to hear what you think! Make this Disney inspired dish and let her know your thoughts. Oh yeah, one more thing. If you want to change things up in the recipe, consider using raisin bread instead of French bread.
Bon Appetite!
