With a large crowd on hand, The Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts opened today after 25 years of planning, construction and fundraising. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the corner of South Street and Orange Ave in downtown Orlando.
The center boast more than 300,000 square feet, includes two theaters – the 2,700 seat Walt Disney Theater and Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater. The Dr Phillips Center also includes a school of arts and an arts plaza.
On Saturday, 11/8/14, Sheryl Crow is scheduled to perform a free concert at the new facility. Her performance is open to the public and begins at 8 p.m. The public is also invited to attend a family festival in the arts plaza on Sunday, 11/9/14.
Other shows coming next month include the Orlando Ballet who will present “Nutcracker”, “The Phantom of the Opera”, and the Tony Award-winning Best Musical “The Book of Mormon”.
