This past Saturday, followers of Taking the Florida Plunge joined forces for a day of volunteer work and fellowship at Give Kids the World Village. I would personally like to thank Kelly Green of Sea World Mommy for asking us to participate. For those that may not be familiar with Give Kids the World and the work they do, Give Kids the World Village is a non profit 70 acre (and growing) “storybook” resort, located near Central Florida’s major attractions such as Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios. Give Kids the World Village works closely with Make a Wish and over 250 other wish granting organizations to ensure children with wishes to visit Central Florida have their wishes granted. Children, between the ages of 3 to 18, with life threatening illnesses and their families are treated to a week long, all expenses paid vacation filled with the most magical of memories. My first visit to Give Kids the World was just over a year ago. You can view that recap here.
Our volunteer day consisted of a cleaning the inside and outside of two Villas. It was a lot of hard work. Cleaning these villas and making them resort presentable is no easy task and I have a whole new respect for the men an women who do this work week in and week out.
If you were not able to make it, no worries, there will be more opportunities in the very near future. In November, we’ve asked Kelly if we can come back and help her decorate these two villas for the Christmas holiday. Stay tuned for that volunteer opportunity to be announced soon.
If you are not local, but would like to help, there are opportunities for you as well! Visit the Give Kids the World Wish List and you too can help make a difference.
