Top Florida Gulf Beaches

Many of us who have relocated to Florida, do so just for the shear fact we can relax on one of Florida’s wonderful beaches.  The same goes for many of those that come to vacation at Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando Resorts as well.  Here are some of my favorite choices for those wanting to visit the beautiful Florida Gulf Coast:

1. Siesta Key,  in Sarasota FL.  This beach is absolutely amazing! One of the very best things about this beach is the sand.  The sand is made up of 99% pure quartz.  It feels like baby powder on your feet.  The other great thing about it is the reflective nature of the sand.  It’s so reflective that it always feels cool on your feet! The water is a gorgeous turquoise blue.  You should arrive early in the morning or mid-afternoon for the best parking options.  The beach area is quite large and equipped with Lifeguards.

2. Lowdermilk Beach, in Naples, FL.  beach offers 1,000 feet of pristine beach front.  Tiki huts are located along the beginning of the beach.  You need to arrive early to get one of these.  There is a volleyball area, barbecues, and even a nice concession stand.  If you’re someone that doesn’t enjoy lugging everything but the kitchen sink, then this is the beach for you.  You can rent chairs and umbrellas from the concession stand.  Someone will even set it up for you.  Makes for a great spur of the moment trip to the beach.

3.Sanibel & Captiva Islands.  These barrier islands are so unique because they have an east/west orientation instead of the typical north/south. If you enjoy shelling, you will thoroughly enjoy the beaches on Sanibel and Captiva.

These beach islands offer an abundance of shells up and down the coast.  When you first arrive, you won’t believe your eyes.   You’ll see people combing the coast for their favorite shells.  It’s really so interesting to see all the different types.  Many times you will see dolphins frolicking with one another.  I know this is one of Scott’s favorite beaches.  You can read here how he and his family spent the day recently at Sanibel and Captiva.

4. Gasparilla Island State Park located South of Boca Grande.  The first time I went to this beach I literally felt as if I had been transported to the Carribbean. Such an amazing feeling!  The water was so beautiful and crystal clear.  Snorkeling was great! We also spotted many manatees and dolphins.  You’re sure to see gopher tortoises lounging everywhere.  It’s really wonderful to see so much wildlife at the beach.

5. Barefoot Beach, Bonita Springs, FL -Located North of Naples and South of Ft Myers, Barefoot Beach nestled behind multi-million dollar homes. The beach is fabulous for families because of the shallow waves.  Unlike some of the other beaches mentioned this beach is one of the last undeveloped barrier Islands.  You will notice lots of volunteers maintaining this beautiful beach. Many people go here to relax, unwind and listen to the sound of the ocean. So very tranquil.
