My 2015 New Years Resolution Starts Early, Improve My Photography Skills

A few years ago, my wife gave me a Nikon D3100 DSLR camera.  When living in Texas we used the camera mostly for taking pictures of the family, friends and the kids sporting events.  I loved my Nikon but definitely felt intimidated by at at times.  Let’s just say I loved using it in “Auto” mode. Well, a few weeks ago, I was going through the blog and I asked myself what could I add to my blog to make it a better experience for you.  One of the things that caught my eye was my

Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Mad Tea Party

It was our last night at Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom on what will probably be our last trip to the Orlando area for awhile. I was feeling kind of bummed because I really wanted to close down the park one of the nights and get some fantastic images. My wife was tired, I was tired, and the kids were in an awful mood. It wasn’t happening. Thankfully my sister and her fiance Mike decided to take the kids on three final rides. I followed along so I could stay in the same gener

Magical Photo Wednesday – Main Street USA at Walt Disney World

Let’s be honest with each other for a quick second. Is there anything, any place or any experience better for a Disney fan than walking right down the middle of Main Street USA  in Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom? Thing about it!  The smells, the sounds, the sights, and the Magic!  Honestly, nothing quite beats it for me. I love the glimpses of the past that some guests just walk right by. One of the great items to go unnoticed is the Cigar Store Indian that stands watch on M

Magical Photo Wednesday: Boma – Flavors of Africa

Whenever we visit Walt Disney World, Boma – Flavors of Africa is at the very top of our dining list. My wife is obsessed with this Disney restaurant, so we make it a must. A major bonus I find in dining at Boma is taking the time to arrive to the restaurant early so that we can walk around the beautiful Animal Kingdom Lodge. I took my camera with me as always!  Along with a great dining experience I also wanted to capture some great pictures of the interior and the decoration

Magical Photo Wednesday – Walt Disney World Attractions at Night

You can imagine how happy I was when I found out that Magic Kingdom was going to be open until 1am. This is every photographers dream! I thought of how I was going to gleefully stroll the parks taking great long exposure shots until security quietly escorted me out. As it is when you have kids and a tired wife my plans quickly began to evaporated as the final notes of Wishes played. I begged my wife for just a few more minutes, she semi agreed so that was enough for me! My si

Magical Photo Wednesday – All Aboard

My family loves riding on the train. Generally when we first walk into Magic Kingdom we take in the atmosphere and head right for it. I have fond memories of it as well. One of the only things I can remember from my first trip to Disney when I was 5 was being on board the train riding it around the park. It was so peaceful and serene. Now we continue the tradition with my kids. In taking the picture I wanted to capture the train as it entered the station. I was hoping to get

    Kingdom Camera Rentals

There are few companies in the world that really succeed at blowing away my expectations. I have a total of three: Disney, Apple, and Kingdom Camera Rentals. How can I possibly put a camera rental company in the same league as Disney and Apple? Believe me I can. Let me tell you a story. Kingdom Camera Rentals provides a specialty rental service like no other. I first came in contact with Kingdom Camera two years ago when planning a trip to Walt Disney World. I wanted to rent

Magical Photo Wednesday – Disney Dining at Ohana

I tried to capture a photo of the chefs cooking at Disney’s Polynesian Resort restaurant ‘Ohana on a previous trip. When I got home the images were blurry and unusable. I made it a mission this time to capture the chefs in action. I always approach photographing people delicately because you never know what their reaction is going to be. Luckily, these Walt Disney World Cast Members were all to willing to participate and even stoked the fire up for me. I got a few solid image

Magical Photo Wednesday – Lego Car Races

One of my son’s very favorite things at Disney is to take part in the Lego car races at at The LEGO Store in Downtown Disney. During this visit, we built our car, lined it up and gave it our best.  I wanted a photo that captured people’s reactions at the start of the race. The sky was an awful grey/white this day so it kind of lit up the background. Have you ever raced a lego car at Downtown Disney? Magical Photo Wednesday – Animal Kingdom Lodge

While on vacation at Walt Disney World, my family and i had reservations at Boma, located within Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Knowing the beauty of this Disney resort, I of course brought my camera.  I absolutely love the design and beauty of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Such beautiful detail and  color everywhere that just begs to have a photo snapped of it. I was trying to get a wide shot of the lobby but since I was using a 24-70 lens getting a really wide shot to do the lodge just

    Magical Photo Wednesday – Imagineers

I have a lot to say about this image and how it came about. Within the Disney photo community there are many (many) highly skilled and amazing photographers. There are guys that take huge wide angle landscapes, guys that kill at doing HDR shots, guys that close down parks to grab that perfect empty shot of the castle, guys that shoot fireworks and make them prettier than they are in real life, guys that… well you get it. (By guys I mean gals as well!).  Since there are so man

Magical Photo Wednesday – STRIKE At Splitsville

This was our first time visiting Splitsville at Downtown Disney and needless to say we were incredibly impressed. One thing that is amazing to me is how they have successfully combined the experience of eating great food and bowling on an awesome lane. In an age where retro is cool again, this concept is doing nothing but winning over fans. For this image we were sitting at our table beside the lanes and saw this guy getting up to bowl. I thought the contrast between him and

Magical Photo Wednesday – Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse

While traveling to the top, I looked down and saw how the stairs zigged and zagged.  I couldn’t resist, I had to snap this picture. Once we arrived at the top I was so impressed with the vantage points available.  I was even able to capture a picture from the top looking out at Splash Mountain, but I will share that with you on another day. Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse is a Disney classic!  Have you climbed to the top to take advantage of the photo opportunities? Enjoy ~ J

Magical Photo Wednesday – Tomorrowland Sunset

For this weeks Magical Photo Wednesday I give you “Tomorrowland Sunset”. We were standing in an awful line for Tomorrowlands Buzz Lighyear Space Ranger Spin when I noticed that the sun setting was making everything glow beautifully.  The sky also had a very intense blue so thought it would make for a great picture.  It’s not your typical Disney picture and it’s a result of keeping your eyes open at the parks. Enjoy ~ Justin You can view more pictures form Justin on Flickr. #M

Magical Photo Wednesday – Train In Motion

For this weeks Magical Photo Wednesday I give you “Train in Motion.” My only regret is that the sky was so overcast it turned out white. I debated between this and a black and white version but I really like how the color stands out in this picture. I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!
